The New York Times, April 26, 1933 League Resists Nazi Plea.
Refuses to Dismiss German Socialist Jew.
Wireless to THE NEW YORK TIMES.
GENEVA, April 26.-Strong Berlin pressure to have a German member of the League Information Section, Egon Wertheimer, dropped from the League secretariat despite a contract has failed.
The future secretary of the League, M. Avenol, refused and decided to transfer him to the financial section, where his personal position will be less constantly exposed to the Nazi press.
Since the appointment of Herr Wertheimer to the secretariat in 1930 the German Nazi and National press often has savagely attacked him because he is the only German Socialist Jew in the League service. He is a former London correspondent of Vorwaerts.
Dr. Kempner of the Mendelsohn Banking Company, the German member of the League's finance committee, is attending its present session.
