VIENNA - Representatives from the birthplaces of Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini and Josef Stalin will meet at the weekend in Austria to discuss the heritage of their towns, an organiser said Tuesday.
Saturday's meeting in the town of Branau in Upper Austria, where Hitler was born, will also draw representatives from Gori in Georgia — Stalin's birthplace — and Predappio, Mussolini's native town in Italy.
Predappio's mayor Giorgio Frassineti said the towns should be "on the frontline of democracy," despite remaining pilgrimage spots for neo-Nazis.
Organiser Andreas Maislinger said he had a plan to convert the building where Hitler was born — which had then been a small boarding house — into a "House of Responsibility" where meetings and discussions can be held.
