Dear Dr Maislinger,

Thomas Brechenmacher suggested that I contact you regarding a book I am writing about people who share a name with someone very famous - whether an infamous historical figure, or a modern celebrity.

While my book is not an academic study - in part its purpose is photographic - I was intrigued to discover that you organised a conference at Braunau dealing with the issue of problematic names, where Adolf Hittler and Heinrich Himmler made appearances.

I am trying to find out whether there is any literature about namesakes - and whether anyone has investigated "name psychology". Almost without exception, the people I have spoken to have been affected in some way by their name, and often this can be traumatic for them - for instance, there is a man named Slobodan Milosevic who finds his employment prospects severely impeded by his name, and number of people called Margaret Thatcher used to be woken in the night by abusive telephone calls during the Eighties.

If you are able to assist in any way - either by suggesting further people to talk to or literature to read - then I would be most grateful.

Yours sincerely,

Nick Angel
