The Kleinmann Family Foundation |
The Kleinmann Family Foundation is a non-profit organization mandated in 1995 by the Canadian government to educate the public about what the dangers of prejudice did and can lead to.
In the late 1980s, Peter Kleinmann retired from his Montreal, Quebec business and began to relate his experiences as a young man during the Holocaust. His aim was to warn young people about the dangers of racism, bigotry, stereotyping, and discrimination. Until his untimely death in February 2000, Peter dedicated his prodigious energies to this mission of education for a better world. Reaching out beyond the account of any one individual, the educational activities which now bears his family name continues under the generous sponsorship of his widow, Esther Kleinmann.
The Website |
I work on designing the webpage, make it compatible to different web browsers and improve content and usability. I digitalize video material for the website, work on our current VietCan project, help with administrative jobs and the maintenance of the website. My job also includes continuous development of our Powerpoint-presentation that I use during the Gedenkdienst-presentation in front of the students. I speak to kids in highschools about contemporary Genocides, and hold the program "Austrian Youth Today: History Interconnected", which educates about the Austrian Holocaust Memorial Service.
I would like to work at the institution to learn more about the Holocaust and in particular how it was possible for it to reach the proportions it ultimately did. I want to pass this knowledge on to other young people and make them aware how fast hate can grow when the political and social circumstances are conducive.
