יד ושם - רשות הזיכרון לשואה ולגבורה , הרשות הרשמית של ישראל לזכרון קורבנות השואה, נוסד בשנת 1953 באמצעות חוק ההנצחה של הכנסת. מקור השם בפסוק מהתנ"ך: "ונתתי להם בביתי ובחומתי יד ושם טוב מבנים ומבנות, שם עולם אתן לו אשר לא יכרת” (ישעיהו, פרק נ"ו, פסוק וה). יד ושם, הממוקם למרגלות הר הרצל בירושלים, הינו מתחם הכולל מוזיאון לתולדות השואה, חדרי הנצחה, גלריות אמנות, ארכיונים, אתרי הנצחה דוגמת בקעת הקהילות, בית כנסת ומרכז חינוכי.
משימתי כשליח אוסטרי להנצחת השואה תהיה בעיקר לעזור במיון ובקטלוג של תיקים גרמניים מהשנים 1933-1945 בארכיוני יד ושם. בנוסף וכחלק מתפקידי, אעסוק בעבודת תרגום.
ישנן שלוש סיבות עיקריות לעבודתי כשליח אוסטרי להנצחת השואה. ראשית, אני מרגיש מחויב לעזור בשימור זכרונות ומסמכים מהשואה. שנית, שימור זה נועד בין השאר ובעיקר למניעת חזרה של מאורע דומה בעתיד. הסיבה השלישית היא המשמעות הסימבולית של עבודתי כאוסטרי בישראל בשנת הששים לקיומה ולקיחת האחריות על ההסטוריה של מדינתי.

Yad Vashem is Israel's official memorial to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust established in 1953 through the Memorial Law passed by the Knesset. The origin of the name is from a Biblical verse: "And to them will I give in my house and within my walls a memorial and a name (Yad Vashem) that shall not be cut off." (Isaiah, chapter 56, verse 5). Located at the foot of Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, Yad Vashem is a large complex containing a history museum, memorial chambers, art galleries, archives, outdoor commemorative sites such as the Valley of the Destroyed Communities, a synagogue, and an educational centre.
My task as an Austrian Holocaust Memorial Servant in Yad Vashem's archives will mainly consist of helping to sort and to catalogue German files from the years 1933-1945. Another part of my Holocaust Memorial Service will be to provide translations.
There are three main reasons for my work as an Austrain Holocaust Memorial Servant. Firstly, I have a strong urge to assist in preserving the memory of and documents from the Holocaust, and thereby help in preventing similar occurrences in the future, which is the second reason for my Austrian Holocaust Memorial Service. The third reason is the symbolic act of working as an Austrian in Israel, in its 60th year of existence, and take the responsibility of my country's history.
