The mission of Holocaust Museum Houston (HMH) is to make people aware of the dangers which prejudice, hatred and violence brought about during the Holocaust. It also endeavors to remind us that these dangers are still relevant today. The museum promotes understanding, remembrance and education with the goal that both students and the general population stay and become aware of the lesson of these tragic events. This lesson is that humankind must strive to live together in peace and harmony.
A major commitment of the Holocaust Museum Houston is the educational program. This program comprises a teacher program, a student program and an academic program.

The duties of an Austrian Holocaust Memorial Intern include assistance in archive work and research at the library of the museum, assistance in the education department, organization of selected material and information that serve as a basis for classes about the Holocaust, organization of tours at the museum, and assistance in organizing and coordinating visits of school-classes and lecturers at the museum. Multilingual volunteers like Austrian Holocaust Memorial Servants may also work with original source materials and translate information and marketing materials.
Jewish Museum Munich
The Jewish Museum Munich provides an overview of Munich's Jewish history and is part of the city's new Jewish Center located at Sankt-Jakobs-Platz in Munich, Germany.
The museum was built from 2004 until its inauguration on March 22, 2007 and is run by the City of Munich.

While there have been plans for a Jewish Museum dating back as far as 1928, the project did not gain significant momentum until the early 1980s when gallery owner Richard Grimm opened a private Jewish museum in his apartment in Munich. As the private collection gained popularity the need for a larger, public museum became apparent. However, Grimm's private museum closed after ten years for financial reasons and the Jewish community transferred the collection to a provisional exhibition space where the Museum of the City of Munich presented exhibitions and events in collaboration with the City Archives. It was then decided to build a municipal Jewish Museum as part of the new Jewish Center at St.-Jakobs-Platz.

Das Museum wurde am 22. März 2007 eröffnet.
Erste Überlegungen zur Gründunge eines Jüdischen Museums gab es schon um 1928. Das Projekt wurde jedoch bis in die frühen 1980er Jahre, als der Galerist Richard Grimm ein privates Jüdisches Museum in München eröffnete, nicht konkretisiert. Nach 10 Jahren nahm die Israelitische Kultusgemeinde die Sammlung auf und stellte größere Ausstellungsräume zur Verfügung. Dieses "Interimsmuseum" wurde bis 2001 von Richard Grimm geleitet, bevor es dann als städtische Einrichtung in Kooperation mit dem Münchner Stadtmuseum und dem Stadtarchiv betrieben wurde. Mit den Plänen der Israelitischen Kultusgemeinde, die neue Hauptsynagoge und das Gemeindezentrum am St.-Jakobs-Platz zu errichten, kam es dann auch zur Planung und Errichtung des Jüdischen Museums München.

The duties of an Austrian Holocaust Memorial Servant at the Jewish Museum Munich include assistance in the supervision of regular visitors and visitors with emigration and persecution background, and assistance in cultivating a network of contacts and preparing family gatherings for emigrants or former displaced persons and their descendants. Moreover, the work includes the assistance in educational programs, interviewing contemporary witnesses and subsequently documenting these oral history interviews. The inventory of donations, and assistance in the theoretical and practical preparation and implementation of exhibitions are further tasks performed by Austrian Holocaust Memorial Servants.
Most of the offices of the staff are located in the Ignaz-Günther-Haus at Sankt-Jakobs-Platz.
Die Aufgaben eines Österreichischen Gedenkdieners am Jüdischen Museum München umfassen die Mitarbeit in der Besucherbetreuung, der Betreuung ehemaliger "displaced persons" und der Mithilfe in der Organisation und Durchführung von Familientreffen jener. Weitere Tätigkeiten umfassen die Mitwirkung an der Konzeption und Durchführung museumspädagogischer Vermittlungsprogramme, Erstellung von Zeitzeugeninterviews und Datenbanken für den Studienbereich und Inventarisierung von Schenkungen. Ebenfalls widmen sich Gedenkdiener der inhaltlichen und/oder praktischen Vorbereitung und Umsetzung von Ausstellungen und der Mithilfe bei der ergänzenden Dokumentation durch "oral history interviews."
Die meisten Büros der Museumsmitarbeiter und Museumsmitarbeiterinnen befinden sich im Ignaz-Günther-Haus am Sankt-Jakobs-Platz.
Motivation
There are several reasons why I intend to work at Holocaust Museum Houston and Jewish Museum Munich. Part of my family has origins in the village of Mauthausen. Every time I visited the nearby concentration camp I was shocked and asked myself how such an atrocity as the Shoa could take place. As an Austrian, I wanted to contribute to let the horrible deeds of my fellow countrymen never be forgotten and therefore I decided to work as a Holocaust Memorial Servant. Furthermore, I think it is very important to show people how fatal it can be when hatred and racism degenerate.
Additionally, I have always been very interested in Jewish culture and eager for learning more about it. In my opinion, if we learn more about other cultures, we become more tolerant and open-minded, which eventually leads to a more peaceful world.
Es gibt mehrere Gründe für meine Entscheidung, meinen Zivildienst in Form eines Gedenkdienstes abzuleisten. Ein Teil meiner Familie stammt aus der Marktgemeinde Mauthausen. Bei den zahlreichen Besuchen des Konzentrationslagers war ich geschockt und fragte mich jedes Mal erneut, wie es denn Menschen möglich sei, Mitmenschen solch Gräueltaten anzutun. Als Österreicher wollte ich dazu beitragen, dass die furchtbaren Geschehnisse meiner Landsleute niemals in Vergessenheit geraten, weshalb ich mich schlussendlich für einen Gedenkdienst entschied. Außerdem ist es auch sehr wichtig, vor allem jungen Menschen zu zeigen, wie fatal es sein kann, wenn Hass und Rassismus ausarten.
Darüber hinaus habe ich mich schon immer sehr für die Jüdische Kultur interessiert und wollte mehr darüber erfahren. Meiner Meinung nach werden wir, wenn wir über andere Kulturen lernen, toleranter und aufgeschlossener gegenüber unseren Mitmenschen, was in Folge zu einem friedlicheren Zusammenleben führt.
