A deputy from the ruling United Russia party has begun collecting funds in order to buy and destroy Adolf Hitler's family home.
Frantz Klintsevich is currently looking for sponsors to help him raise the 2.2 million euros ($2.8 million) needed to buy the house in the Austrian town of Braunau-am-Inn, Izvestia reported.
“I would buy this property in the blink of an eye if I had that kind of money myself, but I do not. If I were to receive financial help, I would buy the house and destroy it demonstratively,” he told Izvestia.
While no oligarchs have shown interest in sponsoring the project as of yet, Klintsevich has received some backing from the Communist Party.
“Everything that is connected to fascism should be wiped off the face of the earth. No one should even know that place ever existed,” Vadim Solovyov, member of the Communist Party’s State Duma fraction, told the newspaper.
Solovyov explained that United Russia had “stomped all over our sponsors” but said he would make a personal contribution to such a fund if it were created.
But Yevgeny Proshechkin, head of the Moscow Anti-Fascism Center, warned that before jumping into action, Klintsevich should first find out whether the Austrian government is even willing for the house to be sold to foreigners and if so, what maintenance obligations would be imposed on the buyer.
